College
PHILOSOPHY
The counselors at Westside High School believe in each and every individual student and his or her capability for continuing success and happiness beyond the high school setting.
As a result, we believe in the concept of making a match between the student and the prospective college or university setting. We are open to a variety of settings that best fit each individual student. We strive to develop relationships with our students and serve the best interests of the individual and the family.
We encourage students and parents to:
Investigate all options – big, medium, and smaller settings; institutions of varying selectivity; financially affordable options, and places of which you’ve not yet heard.
Consider and apply to a financial safety school. As we’ve learned over the years, all kinds of situations can arise that affect a family’s finances, and we hope to keep college affordable and reasonable for families.
Consider a geographical safety school. Again, during the course of the senior year, it is not unusual for students to have a change in their family situation that might make it desirable to be within driving distance to home.
