In The Minds Of The West Perry Cheerleaders
By: Rylie Waggoner / December 2023
West Perry cheerleading has been going on since July. All of the girls stuck together through football season, and competition season. Now, they’re finally in the basketball and wrestling season. They have had so many practices, and have been a team for so long. With some of the same girls sticking through it, some new girls too, adding on. Aurianna Hocker, and Abbey Winters, have been cheerleaders since their day one, if you wanted to see what cheerleading was like you should ask them.
Football season went great this year. “Cheering for football was definitely something I looked forward to each year. I will definitely miss stunting and tumbling on the sidelines, as well as cheering with everyone. Especially the girls I’ve cheered with basically my whole life” Hocker stated. “I’m going to miss all aspects of cheer when I graduate, might be the only part I miss” Winters said. Mustang cheerleaders had a good season and loved cheering for their football team and loved to support everyone else.
Now, the girls are excited to continue the season to support the basketball and wrestling team. “I hope basketball and wrestling both have great seasons. I’m very excited to see how our girls wrestling team does this year as it’s a new thing to our school” Hocker said. The girls are learning some new cheers and going on to cheer for more. To support our new teams, and teams that are excited to start their season. These girls have stuck together for so many years, cheering on West Perry. “I will miss cheering for West Perry since it has been part of my life for such a long time. My plan is to cheer in college so I can still continue my favorite sport after high school.” “I’m going to miss the family aspect. I’m going to miss practicing with girls I've grown to consider sisters” Hocker and Winters states.
The West Perry Mustangs had great teams so far this year. Mustangs will continue to grow and go onto a next set of sports. The Mustang cheerleaders will stick by these sports' sides, even if they don’t cheer for them, and continue to cheer them on. The cheerleaders, despite not doing the best at Peco, worked hard, and will continue to. To a great season, and more to come.
