Mrs. New's Art Class

It is an absolute honor to be a member of the Westlake family of educators.  It is my pleasure to assist our scholars as they continue to become compassionate, creative, and competent world-citizens.

The IB MYP fosters thoughtful scholarship within a meaningful academic framework of conceptually-based inquiry.  Inquiry is the heART of MYP art pedagogy.  The key concepts for inquiry within the MYP art program are:  aesthetics, identity, change and communication.  Direct assessment will address: knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, and responding.

This is my 25th year as a career educator, and I have taught 7-12th in that short span of time.  Art is my passion, and I have been heavily involved in artistic endeavors outside of education, such as previously owning my own photography business.  It is crucial for artists to make "purposeful connections between investigation and practice" - a bridge between exploratory experiences within the classroom and the real world.  I am excited to facilitate a "process of creative exploration and (self-) discovery" (ibo.org).  We are all artists, and we find meaning as we continue to shape our own artistry.

Parents and artists, please refer to ManageBac for assessment guidelines and feedback.   Please note, the calendar is subject to change at teacher discretion.  Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.  I am here for you!
