What is MCBA?
The Massachusetts Children's Book Award Program was founded at Salem State University in Salem Massachusetts by Dr. Helen Constant 1975 to encourage children to read great books.Fifth grade students are given a “master list” of book titles. Students are eligible to vote if they have read, or have heard read aloud, at least five of the books from the 2024-25 Master List. Voting will take place at the end of March, 2025.
Titles on the master list are all available in paperback and online from JV Fletcher Library. The author of the winning book receives a plaque to commemorate the award.
