About the Teacher:
Since 1997, it continues to be an extraordinary honor to teach Social Studies at Roosevelt Intermediate School. After graduating from University of Delaware with a B.A. in various Social Science fields, I pursued an M.A. in Special Education from Kean University. Lastly, to enhance a broader view of education, I then completed a Supervisor of Instruction program with Rutgers University. Providing a richly layered educational experience for each child, through the Social Studies lens, is our shared goal for this school year.
During our ten months together, we will explore a total of six units of study. These units will take us from the formation of the United States (American Revolution Era) all the way through to the Civil War/Reconstruction Era. We will also be taking an in-depth look at American Government during our Civics Units. We use numerous methods of instruction and assessment that strive to engage each 8th grader in a meaningful & reflective manner. Together we investigate primary, secondary, and current sources of information. Our examinations of American History & Civics will include connections with current events and 20th/21st century events.
