Art, inherently, fosters personal expression. It nurtures creative thought and problem solving with immediate results at hand to evaluate. Art is an important tool for sharing what is meaningful to us. It allows us to open our minds so we can think broader and deeper. It can help us connect. It encourages empathy and the search for the common heart. Making art shows us how important and necessary the creative endeavor is to us all. Art is gratifying, relaxing, challenging, and fun. Art is AWESOME.
I teach 6th and 7th grade visual art and 8th grade arts and crafts. We make art of many different types using a wide variety of materials and processes.
We study ART! We learn about the art of many different cultures, from Africa to ancient Egypt, Polynesian to Native American, Asian to Middle Eastern. We learn about the artwork of specific artists, and the movements they inspired. We delve deeply into skills and theories including value, line, space, balance, composition, color, and perspective.
