Welcome to 8th Grade US History! I am excited to join the Westfield community. In this class we will be exploring American history from the colonies to American expansion. The goal of this class is to create great American historians! Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. Hope everyone has a great year!!

The Westfield Public School District, in partnership with families and community, educates all students to reach their highest potential as productive, well-balanced and responsible citizens who respect individual differences and diversity in an ever changing world.

Course Description

The eighth-grade curriculum is inquiry-driven, with students formulating their own questions in addition to the essential questions provided for each unit. Throughout the year, students analyze social studies from multiple perspectives by consulting numerous primary and secondary sources, while assessing their validity and contextualization. As a result of their thorough research, students are encouraged to draw informed conclusions and provide evidence to support their discoveries.

The Westfield Social Studies curriculum infuses geography, history, economics, civics, and archaeology throughout the course to provide students with an extensive understanding of the creation of our nation, the Constitution, and our westward expansion through the era of social change. The essential question throughout this course will be "How do people feel when their rights are not protected?"
