Westfield High School, Westfield, NJ
I earned my BS in Biology from The College of New Jersey and my MAT Science from Western Governors University. After graduating, I worked as a R&D Chemist for a pharmaceutical company, creating new medications and procedures for existing prescriptions. In my free-time, I enjoy surfing and traveling. I look forward to a great year! (also, that picture is from the time I spent in the Galapagos Islands)
Biology I is an introductory college preparatory course. Biology I covers topics such as evolution, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and ecology. The topics are covered in greater depth and are taught from a more abstract approach than the conceptual approach of General Biology. Certain topics are taught from a molecular approach in Biology I and require quick mastery of new material and terms, spatial reasoning and visualization skills. Students are challenged to make qualitative and quantitative observations, analyze data, draw conclusions and work independently. Laboratory experiments demonstrate the experimental foundations of the subject matter, reinforce content, and teach laboratory techniques and safety. Skills required to write formal lab reports are developed and strengthened in this course. Placement in Biology I is based upon superior tests scores and marking period grades, as evidenced by an A average in 8th grade science along with a strong teacher recommendation regarding the student's ability to think critically and in the abstract and possess the appropriate level of maturity, and ability to work independently.
All class materials can be found in google classroom. All folders are labeled with the Unit titles.
Each individual period has a calendar with upcoming assignments, tests, and quizzes for that period. Each class will be slightly different so please use the period you are assigned to find upcoming assignments.
Below is my schedule for the 2018-2019 school year.
