The middle school science curriculum at Wesley School is designed to challenge and engage students, develop their practical and problem-solving skills and demonstrate the real-world applications of the topics they have studied.

6th Grade Science will cover Earth and Space Science. The focus of this curriculum is to study the processes that shape the Earth and explain the universe. This course will explore the four main branches of Earth Science, which includes the following: geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy. Students will learn about Earth’s systems and their interactions. Students will also explore the current theories that describe the formation or Earth, our Solar System, and the universe. Students will learn about the relationship between Earth Science and technology.

7th Grade Science will cover the basic principle of life Science. The focus of this curriculum is to reinforce student understanding of change, cycles, patterns, and relationships in the living world. Students build on basic principles related to these concepts by exploring the cellular organization and the classification of organisms; the dynamic relationships among organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems; and change as a result of the transmission of genetic information from generation to generation.

8th Grade Science will cover basic principles of physics and chemistry. The focus of this curriculum is to study the physical world as it relates to fundamental concepts about matter, energy and motion. Students will build on the basic principles related to concepts of forces and motion, chemical and physical properties of matter, the ways in which matter and energy interact, the forms and properties of energy, and other basic concepts in chemistry and physics.

By the end of year 8, the students are expected to know, apply, and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study.

All middle school students are expected to present an investigative project to be showcased in our annual MS STEAM Festival.
