Students who can find, select and retrieve information build upon the fundamental reading strategies in order to search for information that is relevant to a question asked. Students will be able to find specific information in a text that answers a question given to them. This is a strategy often used when researching.
Students need to be able to identify which information is relevant to a question and which information does not need to be shared. Learning to identify key information is important as this is a skill used throughout school and crosses a multitude of curriculum areas. Finding accurate information in order to answer a key question uses many of the fundamental reading strategies and it is important students know how to select and retrieve information in order to answer a question.
