Homework for Easter holidays

Consolidation Time

Your task is to gain a consolidated understanding of the period between May 1789 and October 1791. Note that in class, we do PowerPoints, activities and we discuss, but by itself this is not enough to do well. You must get the nuance, detail and sophistication from the textbooks and other material.

Study strategies:

  • Strategy One: Do small bits every day. If doing the HTAV option, set yourself four pages a day. There are 57 pages in total so that is 4 pages for 14 days. The Cambridge textbook and the Peter McPhee reading will be quite quick too.
  • Strategy Two: Simply reading a page FEELS good, it FEELS like you are studying. However, cognitively, it doesn't really stick, you'll forget what you've read quickly. Add this one extra trick to make it stick: Read a section, but then close the book and jot down everything you remember from what you've just read. This one extra step of recalling what you've just read forces your brain cells to create stronger path ways so that you can remember the information more easily.

You have three options:

Option 1: Read HTAV textbook:

Option 2: read Cambridge and watch Edrolo

Read Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 12.

Watch Edrolo

  • Declining Monarchy and leaders, 11 min video
  • Work of the national assembly, 11 min video
  • Civil constitution, 9 min video
  • The formation of political clubs, 19 min video
  • The flight to Varennes, 10 min video

Option 3: read Peter McPhee (extension, but recommended for all)

Read Chapter 2 and Chapter 3

AlphaHistory is also pretty good for some extra reading.
