ELA Welcome

Mr. Bridwell's Welcome

Mr. Bridwell is excited to welcome back our returning Sweetwater middle school students and the incoming students. 7th & 8th grade math consists of a heavy mixture of proportional reasoning, linear equations and later exponential equations, geometry (with an emphasis on triangles and circles), data collection and analysis, and other building blocks for high school. Mr. Bridwell uses an assortment of tools, games, and other resources to make math fun and engaging for all students. He is excited to start the school year. Due to whiteboard desks, students will have a larger workspace in the classroom, and students will be able to operate mathematically without the use of scratch paper. However, this means whiteboard markers and personal erasers will be in high demand. If possible, please make sure students have personal whiteboard markers and erasers for the school year in addition to the other listed materials.

Mrs. Young's Welcome

Hello Historians! My name is Ms. Young and I am excited to share my 19th year of teaching (4th year at Sweetwater) with you! I enjoy studying history, current events, and geography. I strive to pass that enthusiasm along to my students as we study civics, economics, history, culture, and geography.  Together, I look forward to learning from the past, living in the present, and planning for the future.

Mrs. Phelps' Welcome

Hi there! My name is Mrs. Phelps and I will be your 7th and 8th grade science teacher. I have taught at Sweetwater for nearly a decade – wow, time flies when you’re having fun. I have an enormous passion for science, which I hope you will see as soon as you meet me. My goal as an educator is to guide students through the experience of learning; facilitating their inquiry about natural phenomena and building on their prior knowledge of science and the world around them. My day-to-day lessons may involve class discussions, questioning, brainstorming, partner talk, hands-on activities, computer simulations, guided notes, video clips, teacher demonstrations, and more. My favorite topics in science include genetics, immunology, and ecology, but I can truly get excited about pretty much anything science-related. When not working, I love to cook, hang out with my pups, Murphy and Charlie, and explore the great outdoors on hikes, camping trips, or bike rides. I look forward to a brand new school year of learning and growing together.
