Value of week:

Respect

Message from Mr Lyle

Well we have definitely started Term 6 with a bang this week. Children have certainly been busy as they embark on their final terms in their current year groups. We have been focusing on the value of respect this week as this has been something we have been working on in school: having fantastic manners, walking around the school site and holding doors open for each other. It has been great to witness each and everyone of our community doing their bit.

We have also been looking at respect on a global scale, thinking about how we show respect to each other, inside and outside in the community. As we spent time yesterday paying our respects to those who took part in D Day, 80 years ago, it enabled us to reflect on our roles as global citizens and how it is our duty to ensure that situations like that never happen again.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please ensure you use the key dates in the newsletter and speak to someone if you are unsure. Have a nice weekend.

Visit from Sai International School

Today, we were very fortunate to be visited by Sai International School from India. They spent time discussing the story of Rath Yatra (The Chariot Festival)  and how this is a significant festival in their culture.  They then spent time in classes sharing poems, folk tales and talking to children to discover what Welton is like. This was such an enriching experience for this children and something that will last long in the memory.

Please enjoy some of the photos from today's visit.

Preloved School Clothes

As the weather gets nicer, the preloved school uniform will be out the front of school every Wednesday. Please come and help yourself. We do ask for a small donation in return so that we can fund school supplies.

Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on children's school uniform, ensuring they are wearing the correct school jumpers and school shoes. Please feel free to use this service to ensure they come in to school, each day, with the correct uniform.

Thank you.

Rags2Riches

On Friday 28th June, we will be having another Rags2Riches collection. Please keep hold of any unwanted clothes and we will send bags home in the coming weeks. Please send in as much as you can: a couple of kilograms go a long way! :)

Cricket Festival at Downside

On Tuesday, children from Year 5 and 6 went to Downside School to take part in a Dynamo Cricket Festival. For some of our children, this was their first time playing cricket competitively and they were amazing, receiving plaudits from other schools and coaches alike. Well done to all of the players involved.

ParentPay

Many thanks to all of you who are hot on paying their bills on Parent Pay. Whether this be for school dinners, nursery, trips or breakfast and after school club, we are grateful to the many of you who pay and keep this up-to-date.

If you have any unpaid balances on this account, please ensure it is paid within a 5 day window. Our office staff spend an awful lot of time chasing late payers.

As from the 14th June 2024, any payments that are not made within 5 days of them appearing on your ParentPay account statement will incur a late payment charge. This will be the same cost of a full session at Owls and will appear on your ParentPay account as a late payment charge.

As always, if you have any problems with this, please speak to the school office who are more than willing to help.

Thank you

Nursery plea

We are on the look out for some home corner donations. We are looking at adding 'real' items to our home corner such as men's shirts, women's tops, hats and costume jewellery such as bangles but nothing with small beads please.

Car Park

Please be reminded that the car park should not be used at the beginning or end of the day to park cars, unless agreed with the school office. If you need to walk your child in at the start or end of the day, please park on the surrounding roads, or down by Welton Vale and walk up. Please do not open the gate to let yourselves in or drive in the exit.

We are having more and more cars coming in to the car park, which is a safety risk, due to children moving around these areas at these times of the day. Please do not park here.

Failure to adhere to these requests may lead to us having to lock the car park from both gates at the end of the day to ensure the safety of our children moving around the school site.

Thank you for your co-operation with this.

Y4 Visit to the Roman Baths

On Tuesday, Year 4 had the opportunity to visit the Roman Baths, following on from learning about the Romans in History. Whilst we were there, children were able to take a tour around the Baths using the audio headsets to complete the children's trail, before moving on to some more activities in the afternoon. Children dressed up as Romans in togas and tunics, were able to be historians by digging for artefacts and identifying what they were used for in Roman times and having a go at building their own Roman structures. Year 4 were so respectful of the members of the public around them and did a fantastic job of representing Welton!

Reception and Year 1 Visit Chew Valley Animal Park

On Wednesday, children from Reception and Year 1 visited Chew Valley Animal Park as part of their learning around the world around us and living things. They had a fabulous time and learnt all about what animals need to survive and also about the importance of animal care. The children then spent time holding different animals - even mice - and feeding the goats. As always, they represented the school impeccably and made us proud to be their class teachers. Here are a few snaps from the trip.

D Day Commemorations

On Thursday, a group of Year 6 children took part in the 80th Commemorations of D Day during World War Two. We spent the morning visiting the memorial and taking part in the local service, remembering the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives so we can have the ones we have today. The children then placed crosses as a sign of remembrance. They certainly did the school proud.

Midsomer Norton Town Fayre

Please see the flyer below regarding the Midsomer Norton Town Fayre that is coming up in July. All entries count towards Welton Primary School's overall points score and  in combination with the maypole results could help us win the 'Best Overall' trophy. Most importantly there are some fun activities here for you to complete at home if you wish.

It is free to enter and all entries must be sent into school with your child's NAME, AGE AND SCHOOL on the back. Entries will be collected from school in the morning on Wednesday 10th July. All entries will be on display in the marquee on Saturday 13th July.

It will be lovely to see Welton families watching and supporting our maypole team who will be defending their  'Best Maypolers in Show' crown.

Come on Welton let's show the town what we can do!

Afterschool with the Owls

The children at Owls were fortunate to be visited by the Fire Brigade yesterday where they were spoken to all about the importance of fire safety. They practised stop, drop and roll and what to do if a fire breaks out. The children were left inspired, informed and keen to put their knowledge into action.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Keevill who will be stepping down from her role in Owls. We know how much she has done as part of our Owls family and we are so thankful for this. You will still see her during the school day and she will still be around some evenings helping in our allotment. Thank you, Mrs Keevill.

Nintendo Switch Parental Controls

All tech devices come with parental controls, but they're not always easy to find or understand and they can differ quite significantly from device to device.

The Nintendo Switch, which is a very popular device, has a range of parental controls such as browser access, restricting games based on age, chat settings and more and more.

Internet Matters have a great guide for parents which can be downloaded and sent out or added to your school website. Click HERE for more information.

Managing Screen Time

With half-term almost upon us some parents will be looking for guidance about helping their children to develop a healthy relationship with technology.

Internet Matters have a series of tips and guides to help with this including setting up parental controls, finding other activities to do, agreeing on boundaries and more. You can view the guidance HERE.

Ofsted - The Big Listen

Ofsted - The Big Listen – we want to hear your views!

The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) is carrying out a short survey on behalf of Ofsted. We want to hear from parents/carers of children who are under 18 years old. It should only take around 10 minutes to complete. We are interested in views of, and any experiences with, Ofsted, including Ofsted’s inspection, regulation and reporting practices. We really want to hear from a wide range of parents and carers, even if you don’t have strong opinions about Ofsted, or haven’t had any experience of Ofsted. The survey findings will be used to help Ofsted improve the way it works in the future.

Please click on the following link to find out more or take part in the survey:
