Value of week: Responsibility

Message from Mr Lyle

As we come in to December, it is a fantastic opportunity for us to reflect on how far children's learning has come and how lucky we are to have such fabulous children here at Welton. We are incredibly proud of our children.

This week, the school has felt like a hive of activity.  It has been great walking around the school hearing children preparing for Christmas in their singing assemblies and rehearsals. We have also seen so many children for magic moments, celebrating the hard work they are putting in to school life.

One thing it has been great to see is so many children being celebrated for their positive behaviour and for being fantastic ambassadors for the school. This could be through their wonderful manners, the way they conduct themselves or the effort they put in to their learning. These children are all celebrated through either house points or class reward systems. We are proud that the majority of our children strive to be their best, each day, with or without these incentives.

It is also important to recognise that, even though we have so many children who always follow our school rules: be safe, be kind and be your best, there are some children who may find this difficult. As a school, we are blessed to have such a nurturing staff, who care deeply about your children, and want the very best for them.

Sometimes, in order to help them learn to make the right choices, there may be consequences for negative behaviour. This may lead to a child having to spend time away from a class or having a coloured card for the choices they make. This doesn't mean we aren't supporting them, this means that we are teaching them there is a consequence to an action and wanting the best for all of our children. Children who receive a coloured card may be required to complete a reflection form around their choices. This will be sent home for the parents to see and discuss with them.

As always, thank you for your support in ensuring school is a positive place for all of our children to learn.

We cannot wait to see you all at the Fayre tonight :)

Attendance at Welton

Attendance is always a topic at the tip of every schools tongue as it is important for all of children to be in school. We hold regular meetings with the local authority and welfare officers who ask us about absences etc.

We are seeing an increase in lates for some children. Please be reminded that school starts at 8:45 and registers close at 8:55. If you arrive after 8:55, your child is late. We know that, sometimes, this cannot be helped but we hope to encourage every child to be on time. If you are late for 15 minutes a day, everyday, that is nearly an hour and half of missed learning a week. Imagine, if your child were on time, how much learning could be taking place in this time.

We also ask that if you are late that you come and sign the child in. Children should not be coming in to school late unattended.

Thank you for your support with this.

Parent Voice

Don't forget, you can add any suggestions that you have to constructively support the school by completing the Google Form below.

As always, thank you for you continued support in making this three-way partnership (the school, the parents and the children) as successful as it can be.

Tonight (at the fayre) and on Monday (after school), we are selling books by the Travelling Book company. Please come along and take a look - the proceeds from this go towards Travelling Books; however, we do get commission from this to help update our library.

After School With The Owls

Allotment Updates

We are very excited to announce that we are getting our own allotment!

As a school, leaders of the Owls afterschool club have been working hard thinking about how they can further improve the offer that they currently give to our children who attend Owls. They have decided to take on an allotment as part of this project. Not only will this benefit them, as a group, it will benefit all of our children as we will all get the chance to use it.

Watch this space for further updates on this. We cannot wait to share this journey with you.

Performing at the Christmas Fayre

Also, at Owls, we have been practicing a dance with Dolly for the Christmas Fayre. Enjoying hot chocolate and movie evenings on a Friday and had a week of talent shows last week where the children made up their own bands and dance routines.

We will be doing lots of Christmas crafts over the next few weeks with plenty of festive music to get us into the Christmassy mood!

Reminder to book your child’s place at Owls on parent pay. If you need a last minute place, please call the office so we know to collect your child that day.

Thank you.

Root Connections Christmas Market

Once again, a huge thank you for all of the 'Jam Jar Jingles' donations. We made a whopping £95 at the Roots Christmas Market last Saturday which will go towards funding resources for future projects with Roots. It was lovely to see some familiar faces from the Welton family - most of whom were successful on our stall! The four year six superstars - Ameia, Delilah, Lyra and Ava, who helped out, were a credit to our school and showed every one of our values to the local community with whom they interacted. We look forward to resuming our work with Roots in the new year.

Team Welton Sporting News

VX Ball

It was great to welcome Chloe from progressive sports back into school on Wednesday to teach us how to play VX. The children thoroughly enjoyed using scoops as a means to attack and defend themselves to score points. It was great to see some of our children begin to think tactically as they played and some went on to enquire where they could play the game outside of school! Great job Welton!

Ice Skating- Y4/5/6

We're looking forward to Ice Skating on the 5th and 6th of December. If you haven't yet filled out your child's response on the form please follow the correct links below.

**Waiver forms** We are aware there has been some confusion over the waiver forms. It is your child's name and date of birth we need on one side of the form and then a parent or guardians signature on the back. If you need a new form, please collect one from the office.

Is your child a young carer?

At Welton School, we are thrilled to be collaborating with The Carers’ Centre to deliver much needed support to young carers within our school.  We are aware of some young carers in our school already but would love to extend this offer out to children who may not be aware they are a young carer (or who we do not yet know is a young carer).

A young carer is a child under 18 who helps to support or is affected by someone who:

Has special educational needs (SEN)

A physical disability

A mental health condition

A drug or alcohol dependency

They do not necessarily have to be living in the same home as the person needing support.

If you think your child may be a young carer, or would like to know more about the wellbeing sessions, please let Mrs Hartley know by emailing the school office.

Online Safety

At the moment there seems to be so much hate online and being reported in the media. In this article from Internet Matters, 3 experts (including myself) discuss how to create a kinder world online to promote positivity and kindness. You can see the Internet Matters article HERE.
