Weekly Updates

Tuesday 8th October - Heatree Camp Day 2

After a breakfast of all we could eat - cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurt - we headed to do some raft building but not before kitting ourselves out in waterproofs.  We had a great time using barrels, poles and ropes to put together rafts.  Listening skills, determination and a whole lot of teamwork was needed.  Did the rain put us off?  Not at all - it just added to the fun!

This afternoon was spent learning learning bushcraft skills.  We got to try popcorn cooked on the fire, we toasted marshmallows, drank hot chocolate and ate biscuits... and built some dens!

Monday 7th October - Heatree Camp Day 1

We managed to dodge the rain during our afternoon activity which was 'Tamakale Island'.  Basically, pirates want the native birds that live on Tamakale Island but the birds have gone; leaving their eggs behind.  It was our job to work as small teams to complete challenges and be rewarded with the eggs.

Our evening meal was pitched just right - with a choice of either pasta and garlic bread or jacket potatoes followed by jelly and as much fresh fruit as we wanted.

Data packets?  Want to know what they are, please ask your child what they have been learning about in their computing lessons.

w/e 27th September

What is the chance of it raining?  What is the possibility of us winning the lottery?  In year 6, we have been recapping modal verbs and even had a go at creating a spectrum of them.

w/e 20th September

This week we have finished writing our biographies for Michael Morpurgo and have started anaylsing the features of a formal letter: in a few days, we hope to write our own.  In Maths, we have moved onto addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Please ask your child about common factors and common multiples.

At the beginning of the week, some of our class took part in 'Bikeability'.  Well done to those who have passed and good luck for next week for those still yet to cycle off site and around Welton.  Thursday saw our nominees for class representatives put themselves forward with some excellent speeches.  At the time of writing this, the votes are still to be counted.  Good luck to our nominees!

w/e 13th September

What a great week in Eagle Class.  We have begun writing our biographies in English lessons and in Maths we are coming to the end of our place value unit.  Please ask your child how to multiply and divide by 10,100 and 1000.

In our music lessons we have been listening to and appraising 'happy songs', with a focus on 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams.  Our first swimming lesson was a success with everyone getting in and enjoying the water.

w/e 6th September

The children have settled well into the routines of year 6.  It has been lovely to see them re-group with their friends after the Summer break.  They have been focused and enthusiastic about their learning.

In Numeracy, we have been focusing on place value and have got to grips with the Gattegno chart.  Our Literacy lessons have used 'Kensuke's Kingdom' - our class book.  We have been introduced to the main characters and the adventure they are about to embark on.  As part of our writing we have analysed a biography and have begun focusing on some of the text level skills in order to begin writing our own biographies for Michael Morpurgo at the end of next week.
