It’s been another busy week this week! We certainly haven't wasted any time in getting stuck into Term 3! As I visited classes this week it has been great to see the children taking such care over their learning. Thank you for ensuring your children are at school on time and looking smart. It makes a real difference.
As we navigate the start of this new year, and perhaps have made some new year resolutions, one of the most important issues we need to remind ourselves of is helping to keep ourselves and our children safe online. As a school we take pride in ensuring that safety, and safeguarding, overarches everything that we do and how we behave online is just as important as how we behave face to face. At Welton, internet safety is taught throughout our curriculum however I know that for parents, it can be a real minefield navigating how to keep our children safe online. The reality is that while our children learn about how to keep safe and how to behave responsibly, from time to time I hear worrying examples of when children are not so careful. With this in mind, I’d like to draw your attention to the important upcoming Internet Safety Session we are hosting for parents that you may remember reading about in last week’s newsletter. This will take place here at Welton on the 6th February at 2.15pm (put the date in your diary!) and will be led by Isobel Corby, Cyber Protect Officer for the Cyber Team - part of the Serious and Organised Crime Investigations Team at Avon and Somerset Police. I’m delighted that Isobel will be sharing the very latest updates and insights to help keep you and your children safe online so it’s not to be missed. I look forward to seeing you there.
To further support you at home with internet issues, don’t forget that there are useful parent guides at the bottom of each page on our school website that provide clear, helpful explanations of the platforms your children might be using. I highly recommend taking a look at these to help understand the settings and risks associated with each. The most recent addition to this that I have just added is a useful guide to Managing Screen Time - something I know we all struggle with from time to time! Visit our website or click here to read: Managing Screen Time
Thank you once again for your support in helping to keep our children safe and to help them grow up to be kind and conscientious citizens. We couldn’t do it without you!
Have a lovely weekend together,
Mr Snell :)
What a fantastic response we have had to this! Keep up the fantastic reading everyone!
It was lovely today seeing our Year 6 and Reception class meet up and spend time with their buddies. One thing that sets Welton above the rest is the nature of our community feel. When you walk around our school at a lunchtime, you often see children across different year groups playing together. It has been great seeing our Y6 children take on the 'buddy' role in mentoring our Wren's as they embark upon school life. We can't wait to see what future buddy events take place!
To ensure our school remains a positive part of the local community, we need your help to manage traffic and parking during pick-up and drop-off. We ask all parents to work collaboratively with our neighbours by choosing the most considerate travel options.
How to Help
Walk or Cycle: If possible, please leave the car at home to reduce congestion.
Use the Drop-Off System in the morning. This is the quickest way to keep traffic moving.
Park at Welton Vale: We strongly encourage using Welton Vale for parking; it’s a short walk and avoids the narrow residential streets.
Please don't block driveways or park in front of kerbs for pedestrians to cross. Even a few minutes can cause significant disruption for residents. While not always a legal requirement, parking thoughtfully is essential for maintaining a good relationship with our local community.
If you must park on the side streets, please do so respectfully.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our roads safe and our neighbours happy.
Following on from the information shared last week about cake sales. Please see the dates for each house's bake sale over the next few terms.
Please check Classlists for key information.
Thank you :)

In this week's assembly, Mr Snell launched the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' 'Big School Birdwatch' which takes place across the UK during the month of January. To coincide with this, the RSPB are also hosting the fantastic annual Big Garden Birdwatch, the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, from 23rd-25th January and we'd love to know if you get involved! It's free to take part and will also help the RSPB gather important information about the number and type of birds that are living across our country. Click https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch to find out more and to download the bird spotter sheets!
A super morning was spent with some of our pupils at Bath Leisure centre bowling this morning. Rebecca bowled an amazing 2 strikes but this wasn’t enough to beat Roree whose skills landed him the top spot in both games. It was great to see all our pupils encourage each other, cheering on from the side ones and seeing their confidence grow from using the ramp to free bowling! Well done everyone!!
It’s that time of year again when we are asking for donations of loose parts to further enrich the children’s outdoor learning experience. The aim of OPAL is to enrich the children’s outdoor playtime by encouraging free and imaginative play, reinforcing social skills and allowing a safe environment for the children to assess their own risks. As before, we’re asking for items off the list below. Whilst we will thoroughly check all items to ensure their safety, it would be appreciated if you could check that the items are safe enough to play with i.e. pockets, bags should all be cleared out, cables cut-off.
Please see the items below:

We are very excited to announce that on Friday 6th February, at 2:15, we will be having an online safety talk from Isobel Corby, a Cyber Protection Officer who works for Avon and Somerset Police. During her visit, she will be talking about how to deal with cyber bullying and also monitoring and talking about your child's online use. We feel this will be a valuable session for all parents on how we can navigate the online world and would urge many of you to attend, particularly as children move on. Refreshments will be provided and we will be finished in time for school pick up.
