To figure out if the source is current enough to use, you need to check the publication date:
Look at the very bottom of websites
Look at the title page in books
Check the publication information at the top of database articles
You also need to think about your topic. Is the topic:
Ancient or old enough that there is not a lot of new information being presented about it? In this case, older sources are OK.
Current or consistently changing enough to need the most up-to-date information possible? In this case, recent sources are necessary.
In either case, we want to use the most up-to-date information possible.
