This course focuses on problem solving and critical thinking from a variety of mathematical and practical perspectives. Students will be required to explain their thinking and solutions (verbal and written) within the context of a problem. Topics may include but are not limited to installment loans, estimation, quantitative reasoning, sequences and series, algebraic applications and logical reasoning. Graphing calculators and/or spreadsheets will be used as tools throughout the course. Students will be assessed with and without these tools.
Essential Skills:
Apply critical thinking skills to solve problems.
Simplify, solve and evaluate numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
Create and interpret mathematical representations using correct notation.
Draw valid conclusions and justify reasoning and solutions.
