This honors course provides students with an in-depth overview of how to create real-world solutions using the design thinking model. This engaging and innovative course will empower students to become creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and empathetic designers. This course is designed to introduce high school students to the principles and methodologies of design thinking, a human-centered approach to solving complex problems. This course will provide students with hands-on instruction on various digital creative tools like laser cutters, 3D printers, and vinyl cutters and their corresponding software used to create physical products to solve problems identified and refined using the design thinking model.
This course is only offered first semester.
Skill 1: Design Thinking
Students will be able to identify and solve problems using the design thinking model through five steps. Empathizing with an individual experiencing the problem, defining the problem, ideating solutions, prototyping solutions, and testing solutions.
Skill 2: Presenting
Students will be able to clearly and succinctly present their problem-solving ideas at several different stages in the design thinking process.
Skill 3: Using Digital Tools
Students will be able to use 3D printers and laser cutters on their own using compatible software.
