This course is designed for the motivated student who is interested in making a difference in their fitness level. Students will focus on constantly varied high-intensity functional movements within the fitness center. Functional training emphasizes the training of full body movements, not isolated muscle exercises. The programming for the course may consist of a variety of exercises and training concepts such as body weight movement, Crossfit concepts, kettlebell exercises, Olympic lifting, gymnastics movements and stability ball workouts.
The goal of this course is to demonstrate the importance of functional fitness in everyday life. The course culminates in students working to create a Workout of the Day for the class, in which they should be able to demonstrate programming, coaching form tips, scalability, and repetition sequencing.
Fitness Center usage: Students will be able to understand how to appropriately access a Fitness Center with an understanding of basic protocols, the use of machinery, free weights and adherence to safety procedures
Skillfulness and Health-Related Fitness Standard: Fitness Center students will become physically literate individuals who can demonstrate skillful performance in health-enhancing levels of fitness, by performing and participating in workouts of the day (W.O.D) in a variety of body weight movements, as well as being able to demonstrate the ability to create a workout that works towards their individual fitness goals.
Personal Growth Standard: Students will show an increased improvement in their own personal fitness level, as evidenced by their growth throughout the course from a pre- and post- assessment.
