The purpose of this class, which is differentiated for students with English Language Proficiency levels of 3-5 is to hone their academic vocabulary in the language of the content areas (math, science, social studies, ELA) and prepare students for transition out of ESL and/or into their future careers. This course refines competence in English and prepares students to succeed in an English only academic environment without support. It is the final step in empowering students to compete with confidence and prepares students with oral self advocacy skills. Students should expect extensive reading and writing homework every night, and work on independent projects over time, in addition to the regular classwork.
