Helena de bres

Hi! I'm a Professor in the Wellesley College Department of Philosophy

My current research is on the nature and value of memoir (book here) and the question of what makes a life meaningful. My earlier work in philosophy was on distributive justice in global politics. I teach courses in those areas and a few others.

I have a major interest in creative writing, public philosophy and the intersection between the two. You can find some essays and info about a couple of current book projects here.

I'm from New Zealand, now live in Somerville, Massachusetts, and spend a lot of time in Northern California. In my spare time I like to read, swim, wander outside, tend to my tiny voracious cat, Juno, and visit my twin sister.
