DISCIPLESHIP

“Christianity without the living Christ is inevitably Christianity without discipleship, and Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

What is Discipleship?

At One Hope Church our mission is to make disciples who worship, serve, grow and make disciples. A disciple is simply a follower of Christ. But as the New Testament teaches us to be a disciple of Christ is to become more like him and so for each of us we must answer the question: Where is Jesus leading me? And will I follow him?Discipleship, then, is the process by which we make disciples.

Holistic Discipleship

HEAD, HEART & HANDS

We believe true Discipleship must include the head, heart and hands. When you are missing one of these, our discipleship will suffer.

Head: What we can learn and comprehend with our minds.

Heart: What we sense or feel in our hearts, our desires, our passions, our motives.

Hands: The outward expression of service and love.

Head + Heart - Hand = Lazy or Liar (hypocrisy)

Head - Heart + Hand = Legalism

Heart + Hand - Head = Liberalism

When bring all of these into our discipleship, we begin to be wholly transformed into the image of Christ.

The Path of Discipleship

Unbeliever → New Believer → Disciple* → Disciple-maker → Shepherd (Leader of Leaders)

*Also, nominal believer → Disciple on Mission

Spheres of Discipleship in the Church

In the Church there are at least 5 spheres (5S's) of discipleship. If we only focus on one sphere we lose the benefits of all sphere of discipleship. The disciple must then strive to involve himself/herself in all spheres of discipleship to maximize growth and maturity.

Rhythm for Group Discipleship

The Church will provide Spheres 1 & 2 of discipleship. Sphere 3 will come as Community Group leaders are raised up and the community life of the church is established. Spheres 4 & 5 will involve Disciple Makers taking initiative to intentionally meet with D-groups and Individuals to provide the more personalized and individual forms of discipleship. That being said, our schedules are always tight so below is a proposed schedule for 1:1 and One on Few discipleship groups.
