TRS Instrumental Music
Grades 4, 5, 6
Hello and welcome to a brand new year of instrumental music here at TRS. My name is Mr. Gorman, and I am entering my second year here in Weehawken. I graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 2017. I play piano, trumpet, baritone, organ, sing, and more, and I also have the privilege of serving as the Marching Band Director for Weehawken High School!
This website will contain links to practice videos on my YouTube channel, current practice assignments, links to extra websites and games to practice note reading, recordings of professional concert bands, marching bands, and orchestras, and information about the String Enrichment club. Individual sites for 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade can be accessed in the upper right hand corner of the page.
Please always feel free to reach out to me with questions about anything related to your musical studies!
5th and 6th grade students should aim to practice 10-15 minutes a day and record their total on their practice records. It will be checked every week! Any student who has lost or did not yet receive their practice record will get one from me this week.
Students should see me before school at extra help to complete their progress checks if they need to re-do or make them up and are unable to do so in class.
5th and 6th grade: BEGINNING GUIDES FOR EVERY INSTRUMENT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJXIH4CERAY&list=PLlkyKzSlopn2yDX6wJIMZKavLbMVH6JWT
4th grade students should continue working on their "Recorder Karate" Etudes.
ALL STUDENTS NEED TO GET THEMSELVES A FOLDER FOR MUSIC CLASS! This folder will be used to hold onto all of their materials throughout the year.
String Enrichment has begun! Meetings will be held on Monday (6th Grade) and Wednesday (5th Grade) after school from 3-3:50.
Follow me on Twitter to keep up with what's happening in the classroom at TRS and on the field with the WHS Marching Band!
How to get in touch with me if you have questions!
NOTE: The best way to reach me is via email or calling the school’s office at 201-422-6140. Emails will be answered within 24 hours of receipt during the school week.

Homework and Extra Help
Most weeks, students will have a small assignment for their next class (either a worksheet or a song from their book). Any assignment given out serves to help develop a fundamental music or instrumental technique skill that is important to ensuring success in music class.
I am available for extra help on Tuesday and Thursday before school from 7:45-8:15 for students to come and work on assignments/practicing with me.
Please see the district homework policy (found on the district resources page of my site) for more information.
I always encourage students to progress ahead in our books at their own pace! Students who are looking for additional or more challenging practice materials should come see me. I am happy to recommend technique books, songbooks, and websites to students looking to better their playing abilities.
YouTube is an excellent starting point as well - there are great instrument tutorials, song learning videos, and more available at the click of a mouse!
