DWS Choral and General Music PreK- GRADE 2

The music students will demonstrate the ability to learn the joy of listening, making, and sharing music together at the earliest age possible while learning the fundamentals of music. To teach the students that anyone can learn the art of performing in public and reach their performing and artistic goals first they will learn good attending skills, self-confidence, the love and passion for the arts, the desire to perform, the discipline to listen, the moral support at home to reinforce music appreciation, and the will to practice the different skills required to be a great student in school and not just during music classes. Please remember that REPETITION is one of the most important ways to learn! Always have fun and enjoy singing, dancing, playing instruments, reading and writing music, and finally creating original music in general!

At Daniel Webster School the main objective is to teach every student in grades Pre-K through second the fundamentals of music, dance, and the performing arts. Each grade level learns through a sequenced curriculum and by performing in various live programs. The students learn to use their singing voices (falsetto), learn to move their bodies to different rhythms, and learn the basics of the universal language of music. For example, they learn musical notation, music appreciation, theory, etc. The goal is to learn to make music, share the music, perform in public, and have fun doing it!

“DWS Concert Chorus Auditions Information!”

Dear Parents/Guardians in Grades 1-2 currently attending DWS,

Attached you will find a choir consent form that has to be filled out, signed, and return to Mr. Romano ASAP for the students that are interested and have a desire to try out for the 2018-19 DWS Concert Choir! The auditions will take place during September and October. The student volunteers have to sing and perform songs a cappella all by themselves in front of their peers. The songs are, “America,” “America The Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” for first graders and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” for second grade students.

There are always an overwhelming number of students who audition for the ensemble. Please remember that many students will not be selected because the choral group consists of only forty students as mandated by the principal. All of the participants have to be congratulated in advance for trying out, practicing, and for being a true performer.

The students who are selected to the chorus need sign the Media Release Forms in order to be filmed on video and still photos for school related purposes only. They also will have to make up any classroom work missed during rehearsals once per week. They have to be excellent students because academics are most important, be responsible students, and maintain an excellent attendance record for all performances and practices during school. The members must wear the proper attire to all of the concerts: plain white tops/shirts, black pants/skirts, dark shoes, and no sneakers please?

IMPORTANT NOTICE: All of the students attending DWS in grades 1 and 2 are required to bring in a one-subject notebook for music classes. All of the students in grades 1-2 will be performing during the Winter Program in December of 2018 in the Gym/Theatre during school hours. Everyone, parents, guardians, family, and friends, are all cordially invited to this wonderful Annual Event!

If you have any questions, comments, and concerns, please contact me ASAP. Thank you very much for your patience and kind understanding! Respectfully

Mr. Piero Romano

I pledge allegiance to the Flag

Of the United States of America,

And to the Republic for which it stands:

One Nation under God, indivisible,

With Liberty and Justice for all.

My country 'tis of thee

Sweet land of liberty of thee I sing

Land where my fathers died

Land of the pilgrim's pride

From every mountain side

Let freedom ring!

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

Add Lib. "While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,

Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,

Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,

As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer."

Chorus: God Bless America, Land that I love.

Stand beside her, and guide her

Through the night with a light from above

From the mountains, through the prairies,

To the oceans, white with foam

God bless America, My home sweet home.

God bless America, My home sweet home.

Oh, say can you see,

By the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hailed

At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars,

Through the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched,

Were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare,

The bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night

That our flag was still there

O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free

And the home of the brave.

“Halloween’s Coming”
