WHAT IS THE OSSLT?

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

A MESSAGE FROM MS. FacchinEri:

Hello Saints!

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test for all grade 10 students, and for those grade 11

students who have not yet met this requirement, will be administered the week of April 25-28th. Successful attempts will satisfy the graduation requirement for these students. Students will complete the OSSLT over two consecutive mornings, during their Period 1 class, either in the Gym, Cafeteria or in the LCC beginning at 8:10 each morning. All students will be notified of their specific test dates and location by April 13th via their Period 1 teachers. In addition, all Grade 10 and 11 OSSLT writers will receive test day information and OSSLT Practice Test instructions via their tools2go email accounts by April 11th as well. Please be aware that these are the only dates students can write the test. It is imperative that students are present on their scheduled dates. Please avoid making any appointments so that your can complete this graduation diploma requirement.

Students with an IEP, they will be writing the OSSLT in the LCC with Ms. Dipasquale and Mr. Parent on either April 25th and 26th, or, on April 27th and 28th and will receive accommodations as outlined in their Individual Education Plan. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. DiPasquale.

Grade 10 students are participating in an information session in their classrooms on April 11 or 12 and will have the opportunity to ask questions and will also learn how to access the additional OSSLT support resources. Grade 11 student writers will receive this same information via email.

In addition to the OSSLT preparation students have received in their English classes, all students are encouraged to complete the EQAO online Practice Test. Instructions and a link to this Practice Test will be emailed to the Grade 10 and 11 Spring OSSLT writers on April 11th.

If students have any questions about the OSSLT, they are encouraged to attend the after school Literacy Help Sessions with Mrs. Rozic on April 20th and 21st in Room 267

Students in Cohort D who have opted not to participate in the OSSLT at this time will report to their period one class as usual during the OSSLT dates.

Remember, you have access to OSSLT resources at any time through the eqao.com website.

Wishing you all the best,

Ms. Facchineri
