Welcome to Northeast Hamilton Elementary!
Welcome to Northeast Hamilton Elementary School as we start the 2019-2020 school year. I am excited to tell you a little bit about our elementary and encourage you to check out some of the great things that we have going on in our school.
We have an awesome facility that is almost entirely air conditioned, with a new elementary addition that was added in 2010. The playground was recently renovated and includes safe surface under most of the equipment and also has a walking track. Last year, we also remodeled a classroom, which is our STEM Learning Center and Greenhouse. The students love these hands on projects that provide real life experiences. We have a computer lab that allows our students to work with technology. We have projectors in each classroom and iPads available for every student. We also have several rooms available for teachers to take their students for projects.
We offer a 3 and 4 year-old preschool program. The 3 year-old program meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. The 4 year-old preschool program is free of charge and meets every afternoon. Preschool programs give students an advantage that we hope will have lasting effects.
We have great things going on within the classrooms. Over the past few years we have done a lot to strengthen our curriculum by providing more Personalized Learning Opportunities, My Math, Number Talks, and incorporating Next Steps Guided Reading. We are excited to see how this will affect our students’ scores. For professional development in the past we have done book studies over these books; Failure is NOT an Option by Alan Blankstein, Mindset by Carol Dweck, The Formative Five Fostering Grit, Empathy, and Other Success Skills Every Student Needs by Thomas Hoerr, Whole Brain Teaching for Challenging Kids by Chris Biffle, & Students at the Center Personalized Learning with Habits of Mind by Kallick and Zmuda. We continue to work to develop stronger PLCs and Multi-tiered Systems of Supports to support all of our teachers and students. We also have supports in place for our staff through the Teacher Leadership and Compensation Grant (TLC). We have a full-time Instructional Coach in our building to assist teachers with instructional strategies and data and assessments. Our goal is to provide the best possible education and environment for our students. We believe with awesome facilities, outstanding teachers, small class sizes, and focused professional development that we can and will do great things.
Our Mighty Trojan Child Care Center is bustling with infants through school age children. We are excited that we are able to offer this service to our students and families. If you have not yet visited the child care, I would encourage you to check it out. We also have an After School Program that runs until 5:30 P.M. on school days for students in grades K-6th. The program includes a snack, craft, homework time, and some physical activity.
This year we are experiencing a period of transition. As of July 1, 2019, Northeast Hamilton Elementary began its reorganization with Webster City Community Schools. Here at Northeast Hamilton Elementary, very little will change for our families and students. We have the unique opportunity to partner with the other elementary buildings in our district and share learning and opportunities across the district. Each building in the district has its own characteristics that make it unique. We will still continue to provide many of the unique opportunities for our students that we have in the past. We are also experiencing a transition in leadership as Mr. Kruger took a superintendent position in another district. I have worked closely with Mr. Kruger this summer to help establish a seamless transition. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of Northeast Hamilton Elementary and I am looking forward to an amazing year!
I encourage you to check out our school and if you would like a tour, have some questions, or just want to visit about the many great things we have going on, please give me a call at 325-6234.
