Barcode Scanning

RIO Inventory supports the use of a scanner for inventory adjustment of SKU or Serial Products. The scanner used in for this demonstration was a Wireless Bluetooth Barcode Scanner that was installed to our desktop.

The scanners tested acted as simple input devices once they were connected to the device, if a barcode was scanned the converted SKU or Serial Number would display as text. This is a good test that your scanner is working prior to testing in RIO Inventory.

Using a scanner with RIO Inventory

Connect a scanner following the supplied instructions. Check that all selected Products have been assigned a SKU through the Products tab. To add a SKU to a Product you will need to:

  • Navigate to Products
  • Edit the Product and enter the SKU in the SKU field
  • Save the record

Using a scanner to scan SKU Products

Once all relevant products have SKUs navigate to Inventory Adjustment.

In the Inventory Adjustment tab select either 'Add or Remove Inventory' or 'Transfer Inventory between Warehouse Locations'

  • Select 'Warehouse'
  • Ensure 'Product SKU' is selected
  • Select the box that says 'Scan Product SKU'
  • Scan the product with your scanner


Using a scanner with Serial Products

In the Inventory Adjustment tab select either 'Add or Remove Inventory' or 'Transfer Inventory between Warehouse Locations'

  • Select 'Warehouse'
  • Ensure 'Product SKU' is selected
  • Select the box that says 'Scan Product SKU'
  • Scan the product
  • Select the 'Serial No.' box
  • Scan or type in the serial number for the product
  • If your Batch/Serial method is Earliest Expiry Date, enter the Expiry Date - Best Before is optional
  • Save once complete
