Mr. Bradley Braddock is starting his first year at Waterloo High School off with a bang! He is currently teaching intro to agriculture, agriculture mechanics, agriculture business, and intro to engineering. Prior to working at Waterloo he worked as a substitute and lived on a farm in Patoka, Illinois. He participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H, which is the largest youth development organization in the United States. It is run by the National 4-H council and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and helps kids learn life skills through hands-on projects. Within FFA he had a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) over Bob Whites which are a type of quail. He then received his American Degree, which is the highest honor or state of degree within FFA.
He talked about the shift from subbing in Patoka to now teaching in Waterloo. A lot of things were pretty different, some of those things included the amount of kids not just in classes but as a whole school. Waterloo also holds a little bit of a higher standard when it comes to certain things a little more than Patoka. He also has got a sense of community and involvement from the teachers and staff around the school. They have been super helpful and welcoming. The teachers in each department seem to be pretty tight knit and that creates a really supportive environment for teachers who are new. Waterloo in general does a good job of that.
This past summer was his first time being introduced to Waterloo and the community at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. He greatly enjoyed watching all the livestock auctions because he got to see all of the kids and all their hard work they put into their animals and how it turned out for them. Braddock got an eye opener to a good, strong community. Another thing that was fun to see was the figure 8. The figure 8 is where people build cars to go in a race on a track. That was something he had never seen before. Overall we are excited to have Braddock and can't wait to see what he adds to the school and community!
