Mr. Robert Lohman is a positive, goofy, and friendly guidance counselor at Waterloo High School. He grew up in Totoupoples, Illinois. He has a big family that he has grown up with. For college, Mr. Lohman attended a Junior college called Lakeland, then he got his bachelor's in English at Eastern Illinois College with a minor in speech. Mr. Lohman had a difficult time when it came to deciding what to do for his career. Eventually, he decided to be an English teacher, inspired by his love for English in high school. In the beginning, Mr. Lohman taught at a different school before moving to Waterloo in 1998. He came to Waterloo because he wanted to be close to a big city. He taught English 1 at first. 6 years into his teaching career, the principal asked if he wanted to join the guidance crew. He talked to other counselors at that time and thought about it. He decided to change his career and switch to counseling. “ It is something that I had thought about for a few years prior. I realized that as much as I enjoyed teaching English, I really enjoyed getting to know students even more. Going into counseling gave me the opportunity to get to know students on a different level… helping them navigate both life after high school and problems they were experiencing. It has been very rewarding.” He went to Lindenwood to get his counseling degree. He has been a counselor since 2002. “It is an honor to be trusted and help guide kids even after High school.” “ I love my job and the people I work with. The school's goal is to help kids. My coworkers create a positive environment and maintain a positive culture. We have great kids, families, and workers” Mr. Lohman is here to help the WHS students. If you need to talk, change schedules, or just want a friend, he is there.
