Mrs. Feltes is a school counselor for Williamsville Junior High School. This is Mrs. Feltes' first year as a counselor in the Williamsville School District. Prior to starting at WJHS, she worked in the Hartsburg-Emden school district for 7 years as the school counselor in grades K-12.
She works with junior high school students on: social skills, personal concerns, family changes, and a variety of mental health needs. She also provides classroom lessons on study skills, bullying, social media use, and depression/suicide prevention.
Mrs. Feltes partners with teachers and parents on supporting student's social and emotional development. School support staff are often the first line of defense for identifying youth who may be suffering from mental health problems. The school counselor is able to refer students to outpatient counseling services and collaborate with mental health professionals serving students outside of the school setting. If you would like Mrs. Feltes to correspond with your child's therapist/doctor please complete a "consent to release information" form.
Unclear on what a school counselor does and does not do? The American School Counselor Association outlines both here.
