Literacy Links

Below are several links for students to use. Each link connects them with a resource that will allow them to work on improving their literacy skills:

STARTING SECOND QUARTER, STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE WEEKLY I-READY LESSONS. Students can use their login from school to access I-Ready. I-Ready provides students with literacy skills-based lessons that move up or down in difficulty depending on your student's progress. Check your child's ELA teacher's website to find out if they can also receive ELA extra credit for completing I-Ready.

Students can challenge themselves with increasingly difficult vocabulary, using the SAT style format of giving students a word and asking them to identify their synonyms. The link generates ad revenue through visits and donates the revenue to fighting world hunger.

See Quizlet for a variety of games, flashcards and practice tests on topics covered in grade 7 ELA. Some of your student's ELA teachers may have their own Quizlet pages, feel free to check them out as well.

Students can choose to make an account or not, but GoodReads will provide them with access to reviews and summaries of the latest titles that are age appropriate, genre-specific (Have a student who loves Mike Lupica? Find out about other sports authors! Have a student who adores Smile? Check out other Raina titles as well!) If students make an account, they can also put books they've read on their digital shelf, and write reviews for other students to read.

Common Sense Media is a neutral, not for profit group that calls on both students and parents to offer reviews and ratings of popular video games, books, television shows, music and films. Their reviews offer age suggestions for viewership and break down possible objectionable content into categories, offering specific examples of what can be expected . It can be a very helpful resource when trying to help your student find a book.

This site requires your student to make a FREE account, after receiving a class code for me. We will use this site to access some texts we will read, either in small group, individually, or as a whole class. This sites provides access to a number of classic poems, short stories, and famous speeches.

A fun website for helping students with their vocabulary homework. Word Hippo helps you put tricky words in a sentence, gives synonyms, antonyms, origins, and other fun information about any word found in the Oxford English Dictionary. Use this site when trying to do those tricky take-home vocabulary assignments that you sometimes get in ELA.
