Use of SMART to record wildlife health information in protected areas around the world
Hi there! This is a short survey for users of SMART Desktop that administer patrol data to assess the current status of data recording regarding sick, injured, or dead wildlife and the type of information that is collected with respect to these animals. This survey also aims to collect information on the perceptions of wildlife and livestock health within your protected area, and on your use of the SMART tools (SMART Connect, SMART upgrades, etc.).
Wildlife Health is understood as “a multidisciplinary concept and is concerned with multiple stressors that affect wildlife. Wildlife health can be applied to individuals, populations, and ecosystems, but its most important defining characteristics are whether a population can respond appropriately to stresses and sustain itself” (Hanisch et al. 2012).
We are very interested in expanding the use of SMART to record and manage data from wildlife health events identified or observed during patrols. The information collected through this survey will be extremely useful to understand the scale of the opportunity that protected area patrolling and SMART represents in terms of wildlife health monitoring across the globe and the interest of SMART users to improve/expand in this area. A summary report of the survey findings will be provided to Monica Harris, SMART Program Manager, to distribute back to the SMART Partnership.
This survey is voluntary, it does not request any personal information or individual identifiers, it can be translated into a language of interest, and it does not track IP addresses. The name of the Protected Area will be requested for analysis purposes only. There are no benefits associated with participation.
If you are a SMART Desktop user that administers patrol data from one or several protected areas, please click on the start button and respond to the questions. The estimated time to complete is 12 minutes.
We are really thankful for your time and interest!
