Just like any computer, the Chromebook runs on an operating system (OS). It is very important that the Chromebook OS (operating system) remain updated in order for the device to run properly. Here is how to check and update your Chromebook's OS.
1.After signing into your Chromebook, click the clock in the lower right corner.
2. Click the gear icon at the top.
3. In the Settings menu, click About Chrome OS.
4. Click Check for Updates.
5. If the Chromebook OS is up to date, you will see a message noting that your Chromebook is up to date.
6. However, if you Chromebook OS needs to be updated, you will see a message noting that the device is being updated. You can watch the update's progress based on a blue circle that will gradually appear.
7. Once the update is complete, click the Restart button when it appears. After the Chromebook has restarted, you can sign back into the device.
Note: If you use your Chromebook regularly, the Chromebook OS (Operating System) should remain updated automatically. If the device is not used for an extended period of time (a week or more) be sure to check for Chromebook OS updates. Also, if you have problems with the Chromebook running slowly or not opening a program, check for OS updates.
