For the most part, the Schoology Assignments sync with the PowerTeacher Pro (PTP) gradebook without any problems. However, there are times you may notice that some Schoology assignments are not showing in the PTP gradebook. This tutorial shows you how to troubleshoot the two most common problems when assignments are not syncing correctly.
Schoology Sync Common Problem #1:
The Schoology and PTP Gradebooks Are Not Synced Correctly
1.On the Schoology dashboard page, click Gradebook.
2. Click the folder symbol in the upper right corner. When you hover the cursor over the folder, it will say View Sync Status Log.
Note: If something is not syncing correctly in the Schoology gradebook, you will see a red dot on the View Sync Status folder icon.
3. This brings up the list of assignments and their syncing status. In the example below, one of the assignments say Failed under the Status column.
4. Click the Review Error link. This brings up a box that shows you an error message explaining why the assignment will not sync with PowerTeacher Pro. In this example, the error message is "The PowerSchool section must be configured for PowerTeacher Pro." This means that the Schoology gradebook is not properly synced with the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook. Click the Close button.
5. To fix this problem, scroll down the page and click PowerSchool.
6. Click Configuration.
7. Under the Define Categories tab, you will see two rows of categories. The left side are the Schoology gradebook categories while the right side contains the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook categories. The Schoology categories must match the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook categories. Under the Schoology categories, click the first dropdown menu next to the first category and select the one from the list that matches the PTP category on the right side. In this example, we are selecting Classwork/Homework to match the PTP category Classwork/Homework.
8. Repeat this step for the other categories. Click Save Changes.
9. Go back to the main Schoology menu and click Gradebook.
10. Click the Schoology Sync Log folder.
11. Click the Sync button to resync the assignment.
12. While it is syncing, you will see an "In Progress" status.
13. The assignment has successfully synced with the PTP gradebook.
Special Note: In some cases, you might have some assignments that you do NOT want to sync with PowerTeacher Pro. An example might be an assignment where you do not take a grade, so you do not want it to show in the PTP gradebook. In that case, leave the Category as Ungraded and uncheck the Sync to SIS box located to the right of the assignment.
Schoology Sync Common Problem #2:
Assignment Does Not Have a Grading Category
Another possible cause for an assignment not to sync with the PowerTeacher Pro gradebook is the lack of a grading category. Here is an example. The error message seen below says that a category is missing from the assignment.
Go back to the Gradebook tab.
2. Click the 3 vertical dots icon.
3. Click Bulk Edit.
4. With Bulk Edit, you can easily look at all the assignments in that course all at once. This is helpful if you have more than one assignment that needs fixing.
5. Find the assignment with the missing category and click the dropdown menu under the Category column next to that assignment.
6. Select the category from the dropdown menu.
7. Change any other assignments that need a category. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save Changes.
8. Click Gradebook at the top of the page.
9. Click the View Sync Log button.
10. Click the Sync button.
11. The assignment should now sync correctly with the PTP gradebook.
