Screencastify

Screencastify is a Google extension that allows you to record short videos up to 5 minutes in length with the free version (the paid version gives you unlimited recording time). It is great for recording short tutorials or lessons. Here is how Screencastify works:

1.Download the Screencastify extension by going to the Google Apps Store. Click on the Apps Icon in the top left corner of your screen.

2. Click on Google Web Store .

3. In the Extensions search bar, type in Screencastify and press Enter.

4. Click on the Add to Chrome button for the Screencastify-Screen Video Recorder extension. Screencastify’s extension logo will be a reddish pink colored box.

5. Once the Screencastify extension is installed, it will appear in your Extensions bar across the top of the computer screen. The Screencastify icon is a reddish pink arrow with a tiny white camera in the middle.

How To Use Screencastify:

1.To enable Screencastify, simply click on the extension (the small reddish arrow with the white camera icon) at the top of your screen.

2. This brings up the Screencastify program.

3. You have three options for what you want to appear in your recording: the Browser Tab only, Desktop Screen only, or Webcam only. Click the one you want to show in your recording.

4. Make sure that your computer’s microphone is enabled (the button will be red when it is enabled). It should automatically select your computer’s microphone as the Default. Say for example that you want to record your Desktop screen but you also want to appear in the video. To do this, make sure the Embed Webcam feature is enabled. In the camera options drop menu, select the HP HD Camera (this is the camera for our laptops. If you do NOT want to appear on the screen, disable the Embed Webcam button by sliding it off.

5. Click Record when you are ready to start your recording.

6. Click the box in the middle that says Your Entire Screen. Then click Share.

7. You are now Sharing your computer screen. You also will appear in a small box in the corner of the screen where you can speak while navigating your cursor around the computer screen. Once you are done with the recording, click Stop Sharing.

8. The video will automatically save to your Google Drive.

9. You can also trim the video if you want to cut out material at the beginning or the very end of the video. Just slide the scissors icon to the left or right to trim the video if needed.

10. There are multiple ways to share your video. You can email the video by clicking 1. Send in Email, 2. post to Google Classroom by clicking Share to Classroom, 3. Publish to YouTube, or 4. you can Download and save the video directly to your computer.

Note: Repeat the process for any additional videos that you record. Remember, you can record up to 5 minutes for each video with the free version of Screencastify.

Sharing Audio From the Computer in Screencastify Recordings:

In your web browser, open the tab containing the audio source that you want to share in your Screencastify recording. For example, if you want to share a video from YouTube during your recording, open up a tab and have the YouTube video ready to play.

Open Screencastify. Click Browser Tab

3. Click Show More Options.

4. Turn on Tab Audio.

5. Press Record to start Screencastify. The audio from your video that you are sharing should be heard clearly on the Screencastify recording.

Posting Videos to Google Classroom:

If you want to post a video to Google Classroom, click Share to Classroom. On the box that appears, select which Class from your Google Classroom that you want to share this video.

2. Click Choose Action.

3. Select one of the options and click Go.

4. Title your assignment and fill in the appropriate information. Then click Assign.
