If you are looking for some pictures on the internet to use for a project or website, you want to be careful not to use just any image you find. Many pictures found online are copyrighted by someone and require payment of a licensing fee for their use. If you use someone else's copyrighted picture without their permission, you could find yourself in a lot of hot water!
Fortunately, the Google Chrome browser has a built-in search engine that helps you locate free images online that are not copyrighted. This tutorial shows you how to find these free images.
1. Open the Google Chrome browser at www.google.com.
2. Enter your search term in the URL address bar and press Enter on the keyboard.
3. Click Images.
4. Click Tools.
5. Click Usage Rights.
6. Select Creative Commons Licenses.
7. Single click on the image you want to use.
8. Click License Details.
9. This takes you to the image’s Creative Commons license information page.
10. Scroll down the page to read the licensing agreement and copyright information. In this example, the owner of this image has dedicated the work to the public domain meaning that no payment is required to use this image. It is a good idea to cite the source of the image in your project even though it is free. That way, there is no question as to where you found your image online.
11. To cite your picture source, click on the picture to go to the website containing this image. Copy the website’s URL address and paste it with your image.
When citing the source, you can type the word Source beneath the picture and paste the website's address next to it to look like this:
