Hello, Everyone! I am excited to share what we have been doing in Art class with you. First, I want to let you know that at this year's State Fair we have submitted 6 of our students fabulous work to be put on display. The Fair is open from October 16th-26th so if you have the time this week, please go and see their amazing artwork!
Also happening this October is the month long Art Challenge known as "InkTober." Artist Jake Parker orignally started this challenge as a way to develop good art habits and improve his own artistic abilities. Anyone is allowed to participate, just pick up a pen and draw! You can find the official list of drawing prompts on the Inktober website.
Right now our amazing students are creating imaginative and fun art projects. Kindergarten is designing their own shape castles inspired by Paul Klee, an artist known for his use of shapes/colors, and decorating them with various patterns. The 1st Graders are also enjoying some "collage" work. Collage is an art style that makes use of cut up materials that are glued together to create a work of art. 1st Grade is taking inspiration from cubist artist Pablo Picasso and cutting up shapes to create different musicians and their instruments. Our 2nd Graders learning about positive and negative space in art and incorporating that into their "Flashlight" drawings. See what goes "bump" in the night with these halloween inspired artworks.
For 3rd Grade, we take inspiration from hispanic heritage month and are learning about mexican "Alebrijes." They will be using neon paint to really make their mythical creatures pop! This project will be done in collaboration with a project Ms. Yates will be doing in her Art class. 4th grade will be creating spooky self portraits drawn in the style of Tim Burton. These ghoulish portraits will be drawn using shading and highlights to mimic the iconic look from his animated films. Lastly, 5th Grade will paint Spooky Silhouettes that include value as well as positive and negative space. They will have to come up with their own spooky landscape for their backgrounds and they will get to use watercolor paint.
