I have lived in North Carolina for over 20 years and since beginning my own family, this is my "home." I grew up outside of Rochester, New York in a very small 1-stoplight town (on the shore of Lake Ontario) called Hamlin. I went to St. Bonaventure University for my Bachelor's in Elementary Education and then taught for a year in Burlington, NC before moving up to DC for a few years. After teaching a year in DC, I went to the University of Virginia to get my M.Ed. in Special Education with a concentration in learning disabilities. I felt that I needed more preparation in working with students who have special needs. After getting married, my husband & I moved back to NC and have been in the state ever since. I have taught just about everything since entering the teaching profession from Kindergarten through 8th grade, special education, & technology!
I want you to know that I love teaching, the learning to read process, & trying out new technologies. During the 2008-2009 school year, I became Nationally Board Certified in Literacy and renewed in 2019. I have taught almost every grade level in the last 15 years within WCPSS -- K, 5, 2, 3, and 1st! My wide range of experience lets me know where the kids are coming from and where they need to be before starting the next grade. In my role as STEM specialist, I am able to draw on my wide range of experience to help all students grow and learn.
I love photography, reading, crafting, spending time with family & friends, and running (VERY, VERY slowly!).
