Glaze is a way of finishing a ceramic piece. It is glossy and will make the surface food safe. Glaze has different temperatures that it gets fired to. We fire to Cone 05.
How to set up: Use the lid of the glaze as a pallet and use a clean brush to start.
Painting Glaze: Paint 3 coats of glaze on the piece. Think of it like watercolor, the glaze we have is transparent so colors will show what is underneath. Do not paint glaze on the bottom of the piece. Glaze has silica (glass) and will melt to the kiln shelf. It will look chalky without the correct color until it is fired.
What now?: Place the piece when it is ready to be fired in the kiln room on the wooden shelves. Sudkamp will fire them and move them to the metal shelving near the kiln when ready to be picked up. Unhappy with the glaze? You can add more glaze on top to fix any areas.
