Complete your Bridges from Around the World Research Google Slides that your started on 12/14.
Use what you have learned to tell us about each bridge!
You will need to replace the Mrs. Farrell sprite with a sprite you chose. Directions are below.
You will need to replace the provided background images, with backgrounds for the bridges you chose. Directions are below.
Record yourself telling about the three bridges your researched. Directions are below.
Remove the sections of code about the Golden Gate Bridge.
When you finish the project, it should automatically go through each bridge and play the recording of information for that bridge. You will need to use the broadcast control block for this. Directions are below.
Your completed project should look something like this.
Once your Google Slides are complete, you're ready to create. Use the coding tips below to help you create your Bridge Lesson!
***First, save as - WITH A NEW NAME - your last name + bridges (Farrell Bridges),
code does not auto-save and
will overwrite your work if you leave and return.
Once you name it, save often!***
🎥 Video Tutorial: Switch Costumes for your sprite (~ 2 minutes)
When you start, the sprite is Mrs. Farrell.
You can upload your own sprite by following these directions.
1. In the top left corner, choose file import, and then find your image. It should be a .png file located in your downloads folder.
2. Right click on Mrs. Farrell's image. Choose delete.
3. You may need to use a purple "LOOKS" block to change the size to a percentage to help your sprite fit the screen.
🎥 Video Tutorial: Import Backgrounds (~ 3 minutes)
1. Download the background slides from your Bridges from around the world Slides (12/14 assignment in the Google Classroom). See video above.
2. Click on the stage icon in the sprite corral, click on "Backgrounds" tab to see what backgrounds you have and change the focus to be on the background images.
3. To insert your own bridge background, click on "Costumes" to upload your background. Name those images so they are easy to find.
*** the size should be 480x360 for best resolution and fit! ***
4. If there are any backgrounds you won't be using, you can right click and delete that image.
🎥 Video Tutorial: Add Sound Recording (~ 3 minutes)
Once you have your research for the bridges you are sharing, you can speak and add a sound file to SNAP. Here is how to do that....
Use this grid to calculate where you need your Sprite to go on the Stage. You want to be able to see the bridge while discussing its features. The center would be 0,0.
🎥 Video Tutorial: Using the Broadcast tag to change backgrounds or send messages to other sprites. (5 minutes)
You will use the flag on the Orange Control Menu to begin the program.
Use the Broadcast Command to move from one bridge to the next.
Instead of hitting keys to move forward in your program, you can send a message to all sprites and background to move to the next setting.
When you click on the downward arrow in that input to choose the broadcast names, one of the choices (the only choice, the first time) is “new,” which then prompts you to enter a name for the new broadcast.
When this block is run, the chosen message is sent to every sprite, which is why the block is called “broadcast.” In this program, though, only one sprite has a script to run when that broadcast is sent. By using broadcast instead of "hit the down arrow," the viewer can enjoy the lesson instead of having to click through it.
