Quarterly Learning Standards

What we are learning Quarter 1:

Math: Building our math community by using math talk regularly and discussing even and odd, and addition and subtraction strategies.

EL: School community-learning about different types of school and then building our own book comparing the similarities and differences of schools.

Science: We will be examining and discussing genetics and similarities and differences.

Social Studies: We are learning about our community and the government.

What we are learning Quarter 2:

Math: Addition and subtraction strategies continued; place value and gaining an understanding of how numbers work together. Plus arrays, time and money!

EL: Nonfiction texts: building our nonfiction knowledge while integrating science, including answering comprehension questions, continuing to work on our speaking and listening and writing an informational piece.

Science: We will become meteorologists by learning about weather, tools used to gain knowledge about weather, describe weather patterns, and create their own weather tools.

Social Studies: We are understanding maps through learning about map features, types of maps, and geographic terms through exploration and creating their own map. Then discovering how humans depend on the physical needs of their environment and positively and negatively affect the environment.

What we are learning Quarter 3:

Math: Students will solve problems involving addition and subtraction with numbers up to 1,000. In this unit students will understand place value. They will also use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract. Students will measure and estimate lengths in standard units. Also, in this unit students will relate addition and subtraction to length.

EL: In this module, students build their research skills and science knowledge through a study of the secret world of plants and pollinators. By the end of the unit students will have created a poster and presentation about pollinators.

Science: We will be learning about life cycles and comparing life cycles of animals. Students will also be comparing and learning about solids and liquids and observing what will happen when matter changes.

Social Studies: We are learning about key historical figures, researching their lives and accomplishments, leading to our final project and wax museum.
