Behind the Scenes with the Reedy Creek News

Weekly News is a group of kids working together and trying to make news for our school. We meet every Monday at lunch from 11:15 to 12:00. We discuss current events and ideas for upcoming newcasts for 15 mins to 20 mins and then we get to work by looking at our chart for next week’s broadcast.

Writing our Scripts:

We all write scripts in Google slides, We first start by introducing ourselves. Like “Hi, I am _____.” We must make sure we explain our topic well, use good grammar, and find graphics if needed. After we finish our scripts we wait until Ms.Thrash approves them.

Shooting our part:

This is a tricky part, In this part of the news , we need to set our shooting space.

Some of us use phone cameras to shoot and others use computer cameras, webcam, etc.. For shooting our part, some of us use tripods and others use help from siblings or parents. We also use help from tables and chairs to make sure that our camera is not moving.

Editing:

Editing is done by Ms.Thrash or students like myself, Shom, and Jack. We have some rules when we edit:

• Include the title of the news for each part

• All the volume levels of clips should be the same

• Include images about the topic if needed

The Day Before the News….

This is the time when most of the kids send their videos, posting to the stream. We make sure that we have everyone’s part. Then we make sure that the news looks good. Finally we are ready to go to the next step.

Posting the News:

We use a private link to YouTube to post our news then we share it with all the teachers in 6,7,8 grade to share the news Tuesday morning in their 1st period classes. Here is our YouTube Channel with all the newscasts for the year.
