The 2022-2023 Drama Club production this year was “OZ!” This was a modern musical spin on “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” (book by L. Frank Baum) and got the audience out of their seats dancing with the cast.
During the play, the tech and stage crews were going through the sets, props, lights, and music smoothly. Although there were some bumps in the road (literally), the stage crew went through it like it was nothing.
Dorothy was played by Maddie. She is the sweet Kansas girl who was taken to the magical land of OZ by a cyclone. She goes on a journey and makes some friends along the way to find the great and powerful Oz. She wants to find him to send her and her dog, Toto, back to Kansas.
The scarecrow was played by Braylen. This determined stack of straw was the first to join Dorothy and Toto on their journey to OZ. He teamed up with Dorothy as he was seeking a brain because he “ain’t gotta brain in his head.”
The Tin woodsman was played by Caleb. This sad tin-can goes to the Emerald City with Dorothy and the crew looking for a heart “to feel what's real.”
The iconic Lion who lacks courage was played by Breana. This lion joins Dorothy’s party to go find the wizard seeking courage so she can rightly be called “king of beasts.”
The real star of this show was the beloved Toto. Toto is the canine companion of Dorothy and helps her and the crew find their way to The Emerald City. Toto was portrayed by a stuffed dog named Luca and was voiced by Jana.
Oz was played by Farris. This wizard was thought to be “the great and powerful” but turned out to be a “humbug” but he teaches a valuable lesson of the power of friendship.
Glinda was played by Ava. We all know and love Glinda the good! Glinda blesses Dorothy to protect her from any harm coming her way on her journey to the emerald city. Like Ava said, “No one will DARE injure a person who has been blessed by Glinda the good.”
This mean old crone was played by Millie . We all know and fear this witch. She's a feisty green lady out to get Dorothy for (accidentally) killing the wicked witch of the east, and to get her hands on the silver slippers. She truly is “the kingpin of sorcery.”
“Well, who are these little fellas” is probably what you're thinking right now, right? These guys are the (admit it) suffocatingly adorable citizens of the emerald city and munchkin country. They frolic around happy as ever, going in conga lines, playing limbo, and doing all sorts of crazy stunts. They really are adorable!
These guys are the slaves of the wicked witch. Their big wings and staffs may be intimidating, but never fear, they really are just kids that the witch kidnapped. The winged monkeys help Dorothy find her way from the domain of the Wicked Witch of the West to the Emerald City after the witch was melted.
These mean green and sassy guards protect The Great and Powerful Oz. They help Dorothy and Toto communicate with the wizard.
On behalf of the entire drama club, we would like to give Mrs. Dorsey one more moment in the sun! We thank you for all that you did to help us create such an amazing production, and thank you for being an awesome 7th grade assistant principal!
