In March 2020, the official release of the movie “Stargirl”, starring Grace VanderWaal Graham Vershere, aired for the first time on the brand new streaming service, Disney+. This movie was aired on HD film quality (which is one of greatest,) and is one of the best of 2020. But you can only watch it on Disney +, which is a downside. If you would like to get a preview and don’t have Disney+ the link is here to watch the trailer. As a side note, this fall might be a good time to get Disney+ with the Mandolorian’s season two coming on October 31. and the new Hamilton movie that was released in June.
This movie is based on a book by Jerry Spinelli about a girl who shakes up Mica High School as a new student. She changes the atmosphere of the school ….. As usual, the book is a little different from the movie in several significant ways. *now for the list of differences.*
Difference 1: the sport is different: This is a minor problem, but I am going to talk about it anyway. The sport that the school plays is a different high school sport, in the movie they play football, and in the book they play basketball.
2. This is a major issue, so I am going to have a lot to say about it. In the movie their mascot was the Mica Mud Frogs right? But in the book they are the Mica Electrons……….. Why is this a major? This is major because in the movie there is a part where Leo narrates about the schools sports teams, "coming out of the mud like a mud frog”, when they started winning, but in the book they are the Mica Electrons because of the Mica powerplant in their town.
So, you want to watch or read this before watching, you can check the book at the RCMMS library. It has 4 copies, and after you read the first one, you can check out its sequel, “Love Stargirl”.
