Hello, I am Ms. Donaldson and I am excited for our time together in 2nd grade!  I have two boys, Jacob, who is 25 years old, and Caleb, who is 17 years old. My husband teaches college students writing. We live in Holly Springs along with our cat, Lego (short for Legolas). We love to travel. Our latest trip was a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway.  We started in Seattle and drove down to see the Redwoods in Northern California. I love to travel! I have also been to Australia, Aruba, and Costa Rica. The Aruba trip might be my favorite because I love the beach!

I have taught for over 15 years. Before teaching 2nd grade, I taught 1st grade for 3 years. Second grade is my favorite by far! This year, we are going to have fun and work hard. We are going to encourage each other and be challenged by each other. We may be a little silly, too.

Growing Up

I was born in the mountains of North Carolina. My parents still live in the same house that I grew up in. I love to go visit with my family now. My dad would take my brother and me on backpacking trips. My favorite backpacking trip was on Mt. Rogers in Virginia. We got to see the wild ponies! It's the only place on the Appalachian Trail where you can see them.  When we weren't hiking or backpacking, I was busy playing outside or with my toys. My mom was an artist (still is) and often I would be at her studio creating things with her scraps of leftover fabric.  

School

I attended college at Western Carolina University. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I took a teaching fellows class in high school. I was hooked for life the moment I was able to work with a kindergarten class and see their faces light up when they figured out something on their own. When I did my student teaching, it was in a first-grade classroom. This experience helped me decide that I love working with younger children. I love their energy and light.
