Welcome! I have been teaching since 2000. I grew up in rural Southern Maryland, about 20 miles south of D.C. near the Chesapeake Bay, and I then lived in Northern Virginia for about a decade. I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in society, I enjoyed the challenges of the job, and it allowed me to be an involved parent.
From 2000-2005, I taught 7th grade Language Arts in Loudoun County in Northern Virginia. From 2005-2018, I taught at Holly Ridge Middle school. At HRMS, I taught have Language Arts, Math, Introduction of Engineering, Marine Ecosystems, and always Science. I have been at HSHS since November of 2018.
I have a BA in psychology from University of Maryland College Park, a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University, and an Instructional Design Graduate Certificate from University of Wisconsin Stout. I am certified in High School General Science and in Middle Grades Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. In 2014, I was a Siemens STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Fellow. I have my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescence Science. I initially certified in 2009 and re-certified in 2018. Besides teaching, I also tutor.
I live with my boyfriend, Jason, and our four dogs and three cats. I have two sons: Shayne and Cole, who both graduated from HSHS.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading and being active. I run, bike, swim, lift, and do yoga.
