Meet the Environmental Inquiry Team
Emily Pendergrass
Hi! My name is Emily Pendergrass, and I am so excited to be a part of the MECME Community. I am originally from New Jersey and lived a few places before coming to Raleigh for college. I am a proud graduate of NC State University (GO PACK!) with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Human Nutrition, and of Meredith College with a Master of Science in Human Nutrition.
When not at school, I love to be outside– exploring a park, walking with my dogs, doing yard work, and working in my garden. My husband and I are proud parents to our daughter who graduated from the WCPSS Magnet School Program in 2023.
Why I love our Environmental Connections magnet theme…
We create a fun place where kids learn to look closely and think big. They learn to solve hard problems with fresh ideas—just like scientists.
Natalie Avilez
Mrs Avilez was born and raised in NYC. She is the daughter of two immigrants that migrated from Cali, Colombia. She attended Queens College City University of New York and has two bachelor's degrees, one in Elementary Education k-6 and the other in Spanish K-12 education.
Mrs. Avilez loves being a part of the Millbrook family because the school is such a tight community.
Mrs. Avilez hopes one day to become a world traveler, so far she has had the opportunity to travel to Colombia, Australia, Tahiti (french Polynesian Islands) and hopes to add many other countries to her list. These international experiences have enriched her life and career!
Ms. Avilez is inspired to work with children because they are eager to learn about themselves, others, and the world.
