Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is an annual state-wide competition at the middle school level sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA). Throughout the year, students prepare for the competition by reading from the annual list of specific titles. In preparation for this event, Wake County also has its own annual Battle of the Books held in late February - early March. The competition is generally held at a local school on a Saturday. Each WCPSS middle school may have a representative team that competes in the WCPSS BOB. Each school's team may include students from each grade level. The competition is done in a quiz bowl format with teams 'battling' each other for points to qualify for a place in the quarter-final rounds. The winning WCPSS team then goes on to a regional competition vying for an opportunity to advance to the state level competition.

DDMS has had a BOB Team compete each year. We have placed several years. We won FIRST PLACE in the 2009 WCPSS Battle of the Books. This team went on to win the Region 3 competition and then represented the Region at the State BOB Competition! We are very proud of all of our our Battle of the Books teams!
