Lunch
Your child may either bring lunch from home or buy lunch from the cafeteria. Please make sure your child knows each day whether he/she has a lunch box from home or is a buying a lunch from the cafeteria. Your child will receive a lunch number and only has to remember that number each day. We will work together to help your child memorize this number. Breakfast is also available each morning in the cafeteria. Please arrive by 7:30 in order to have enough time for breakfast.
Snack
Each day your child will need to bring one healthy snack in addition to lunch. Please send in snacks that are low in sugar. Some snack examples are: goldfish, graham crackers/sticks, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, pretzels, cheese sticks, granola bars, fruit cups, grapes, sliced apples, baked chips, etc. Please do not send snacks in lunch boxes as it can be very confusing as to whether is it lunch or snack. Consider placing your child’s snack in a brown paper bag or a Ziploc bag clearly labeled “snack.”
Waterbottle
Please send your child to school with a water bottle each day. Practice opening and closing the water bottle at home so that your child is easily able to refill the water bottle at the sink when necessary.
Transportation
Our day begins promptly at 7:45 AM. Early birds will be allowed to come into class as early as 7:15. There are many adults monitoring the campus to make sure that students get where they need to be.
It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that we know how your child is getting home from school each day. It is best for you, your child’s teacher, and most importantly, your child, that this routine is CONSISTENT. It is important for your child to learn if they are a car rider, daycare van rider (and which one), or a bus rider (and which number bus) as soon as possible.
If there is any change in your child’s afternoon transportation, you MUST NOTIFY THE FRONT OFFICE by 1:15 PM. A verbal message from the child or a talking points message is not enough. If there is no call, we will assume the child is going home the same way they normally do.
Bus Riders and Transportation Tags
We will place name tags on student’s backpacks before boarding the afternoon bus. Tags will include student name, school name and phone number, bus route number and bus stop location. Make sure this tag stays on your child’s backpack! Bus riders will have 3 tags. All other students will have 2 tags (hot pink K tag & DDE tag). Please leave these tags on bags all year long.
Absences
If your child is absent from school, you must send a note to the teacher stating the reason for the absence. Excused absences are illness, death in the family, and religious holidays. If your child is tardy or late for school (any time after the 7:45 AM bell) (s)he must go to the office to receive a tardy slip before going to his/her classroom. Getting to school on time is a good way to transition into the day positively.
Medication
If your child is taking any medication, prescription or non-prescription, that is to be administered at school, the parent must fill out a form to be signed by the doctor. This includes cough drops & sunscreen. The medication will be kept in the front office, not the classroom. Please do not send medication to school in your child’s backpack. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!
Daily Folders
A folder will be sent home daily. These daily folders will be used as a tool for communication between home and school. Please check your child’s folder EVERY DAY for important information, forms, or notes. Make sure your child returns the folder to school each day.
Birthdays
Please contact me ahead of time if you would like to send in a special treat for your child’s birthday. Wake County does not allow parties, therefore we can only have a small treat to celebrate during our lunch time. All items must be store bought per WCPSS policy. Please buy individual items if you plan to send a treat. Do not send anything that needs to be cut in order to be served. Be sure to send in any paper products that will be needed.
Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in helping out in the classroom. Our school year is not possible without support and help from wonderful volunteers! All volunteers to the school or class must register first. If you are not registered, you are not allowed to go on field trips or help out in our classroom. This is Wake County policy. We look forward to working with you this year!
Miscellaneous
One important thing I ask is that you, as a parent, read to your child everyday for at least 20 minutes. As your child begins to read, please make sure they read daily too.
One last thing, please make sure your child gets in bed at an early time.
Kindergarten is all day long, and the children tire out very quickly. When the children are tired, it is hard for them to learn what they need to know. Enough sleep and a good breakfast will help your child excel.
If you have questions concerning anything else please let us know. You may e-mail your teacher, send a note with your child, or call the office at 919-387-2130 and leave a message.
